Tennis club makes it a double for 2005

Cool as can be: Thanks to players like Candice Faye, the UCT doubles team has now also won promotion to the WP Super League for 2006.

In just their first year in the WP tennis doubles league, UCT's first side has cause for merrymaking. The team - in the final match made up of coach Jackie Booth and Siobhan Simpson, Candice Faye, Amy Reid, Craig Hall, Derek Pollard, Jacobus "Jakes" Scott and Andy Young - last week won promotion from the second division to the premier league. It took a photo finish, though. UCT was neck and neck with Table View going into the final day of the season, but a clean sweep over Camps Bay - wins in the four men's and women's doubles games, plus victories in the four mixed-doubles games - saw them pip Table View by one set for honours. The doubles team now joins the women's side, which also won promotion this year, in the premier league in 2006. Simpson (captain), Faye and Reid were also part of that UCT squad.
