Four UCT athletes in ABSA Series

29 March 2004

The UCT Athletics Club sported four envoys at the sixth and final ABSA Series meet at the Green Point stadium on Friday, March 19. Divan Augustyn ran in the men's 400-metres hurdles event, where he went up against speedsters Llewellyn Herbert and world junior champion LJ van Zyl, with Llewellyn just pipping Van Zyl at the tape. James Stutterheim (left) then vied for honours in the men's 800-metres race, clocking his second-best time. Augustyn and Stutterheim also joined up with teammates Craig Buckley and Thabo Mafokeng for the men's 4 x 400-metre relay, competing against four international teams. None of the UCT students were, unfortunately, among the medals on the night, but they did get to share the stage with the likes of Okkert Brits (who didn't make it onto the winner's podium either) and Hestrie Cloete.
