Bumper graduations and celebrations mark year-end

09 December 2002
THE end-of year, week-long graduation ceremonies are upon us as weeks of frenetic activity by students and staff culminate in the highlight of the University's academic calendar.

This December UCT has a healthy crop of 3 622 graduands who have qualified for degrees and diplomas. The total is well up on last year's number of 3 409, with the following breakdown:
  • 398 in Health Sciences (2001: 369)
  • 465 in Science (2001:389)
  • 1 145 in Humanities (2001: 1 066)
  • 124 in Law (2001: 191)
  • 439 in Engineering and the Built Environment (2001: 412);
  • 1 051 in Commerce (2001: 982).
To all our graduands and the academic and support staff who bolster their efforts: “Well done!”, “Knap gedaan!” and “Nisebenzile!”

As Campus begins to wind down and people leave for their annual breaks, we at the Monday Paper lay down our pens, close our notebooks and store our cameras as we take annual leave. Our first edition for 2003 will appear early in February.
