Adamastor becomes CHEC

28 May 2002
THE Adamastor Trust has undergone a name change and will in future be known as the Cape Higher Education Consortium (CHEC). A new logo has been designed to reflect this change.

The Adamastor Trust was formed in 1998 and is a consortium of UCT and four other tertiary institutions in the Western Cape, including the Universities of the Western Cape and Stellenbosch and the Cape and Peninsula Technikons.

The Trust was founded to promote inter-institutional co-operation and shared resources for teaching and learning through, among other things, computer network links.

Executive Director of CHEC, Dr Jim Leatt, said: "The heads of institutions and the trustees of our board approved these changes for strategic reasons. Our task is to establish a strong higher education region that is responsive to global challenges, cost effective and of high quality. We think the name captures these sentiments well."
