UCT researcher concerned that South Africa's energy has been declared G20's dirtiest
The University of Cape Town's Energy Research Centre (ERC) is concerned that South Africa's electricity has been declared as the dirtiest out of all the G20 countries. This was revealed through the fourth annual Brown to Green Report, which was released on Wednesday, 14 November 2018.

Former political prisoner to graduate at UCT 49 years after his thesis was declined
Almost 50 years after submitting his Master of Laws (LLM) degree thesis and had it refused because it quoted a banned person, Professor Raymond Suttner - an academic and former political prisoner - will finally graduate at the University of Cape Town after the institution invited him to re-submit his previously banned thesis.

UCT study reveals how long-necked dinosaurs became giants
New research by scientists at the University of Cape Town (UCT) has discovered a new pattern of growth in dinosaurs. Some of the iconic Mesozoic long-necked dinosaurs (officially known as the derived sauropodomorphs or sauropods) reached about 36 metres in length and weighed about 63 503 kg.

Local communities central to ending wildlife trafficking and disrupting transnational criminal networks - UCT study
The international donor community and government have disbursed millions of rands to fight illegal wildlife trade but have so far not succeeded in disrupting or ending illicit rhino poaching. Many local impoverished communities live near or in protected wildlife areas in South Africa. According to new research by the University of Cape Town's (UCT) Global Risk Governance Programme, local communities can be used as change agents in tackling the illegal wildlife economy.

UCT study seeks to identify elusive DNA in human remains found in the ocean
The University of Cape Town (UCT) is spearheading a study that seeks to resolve the global difficulties associated with identifying human remains found in the ocean or those that wash-up ashore. After the water crisis: How to turn Cape Town into a water-sensitive city
