Farewell to Dean of the Faculty of Law
It is with heartfelt gratitude that I write to bid farewell to Professor Danwood Mzikenge Chirwa, Dean of the University of Cape Town’s (UCT) Faculty of Law, who will be vacating his position on 31 December 2025. Professor Chirwa was appointed Dean of the Faculty of Law on 1 January 2019, the year the faculty celebrated 160 years of shaping legal minds.

Toe ons die Visekanselier se Kampuswye Gesprekke in Desember 2024 begin het, was dit met die hoop en verwagting om ’n gesamentlike reis van gesprekke te begin – een waar ons openhartig en eerlik kon omgaan met die moeilike vrae wat ons universiteit in die gesig staar, sodat ons kon begin om die vertroue, verbondenheid en gedeelde doelwit wat die afgelope jare onder druk was, te herstel.

Update on VC’s Campus-wide Conversations
When we launched the VC’s Campus-wide Conversations in December 2024, it was with the hope and aspiration of beginning a collective journey of conversations – one where we could engage openly and honestly with the difficult questions facing our university, and begin to restore the trust, connection and shared purpose that have all been strained in recent years.
