In remembrance: Tahir Mukaddam

28 July 2021

Dear colleagues and students

It is with immense sadness that we inform you of the passing of our colleague, Mr Tahir Mukaddam (31), on Monday, 19 July 2021, due to COVID-19 complications.

Mr Mukaddam was a chief technical officer in the Faculty of Engineering & the Built Environment. He joined the University of Cape Town (UCT) in October 2014.

Mr Mukaddam has been described as a UCT rising star, a gentle giant and a person who was respectful, compassionate and loving. He will be remembered as a caring colleague who always put others’ needs before his own. He had an extremely friendly demeanour.

Colleagues said he will be sorely missed by the staff in the Department of Civil Engineering, especially his “work family” in the laboratory. He was like a son who treated them with the utmost respect and love.

He is survived by his grandmother, Naimah Mukaddam; mother, Nazreen Peters; and brothers and sisters from the Mukaddam, Jacobs and Peters families.

Mr Mukaddam was buried on Monday, 19 July, in Mowbray.

The university has reached out to offer support to the Mukaddam family and our sincere condolences go out to them and all who knew and loved him during this time of bereavement.

Sincerely

The UCT Executive
