HIV/AIDS support

09 February 2006
In August, the HIV/AIDS Unit will be starting a support group for persons infected with HIV. The group will be open to both staff and students who are infected with HIV and want to make contact with other people. According to the Unit, the stigma typically associated with being HIV positive results in social isolation. Often infected people feel they have to face these issue alone leading to further feelings of despair and depression. Depression, in turn, can lead to poor health maintenance. The group will help people face these issues by providing a supportive framework. For further information please contact Darryl Crossman at the HIV/AIDS Unit on 650 3598 or email: dcrossma@protem.uct.ac.za.
