EEU is centre of excellence

12 August 2002
THE EEU is an independent consulting, research and training unit established at the University of Cape Town in South Africa in 1987. Since then it has completed over 150 assignments and projects in Africa for private, institutional, government and non-governmental and community organisations.

It has distinguished itself as a centre of excellence in the field of integrated environmental management and sustainable development on the continent, and particularly in the SADC region. Projects have ranged from environmental assessments, developing environmental guidelines for various sectors, undertaking policy research and analysis, facilitating policy formulation processes and completing environmental review assignments. Several large donor-funded projects have been carried out in SADC countries including Namibia, Botswana, Mozambique, Lesotho, Swaziland and the Seychelles.

The EEU also has core competency in training and capacity building. A range of training and capacity building materials, including resource files, slide presentations, a video and several books, have been produced and more are in the pipeline. The EEU employs 11 full-time staff and, at any one time, has numerous sub-consultants and part-time employees on projects.
