Join one of UCT’s sporting codes, stay fit and healthy and have loads of fun in the process.

UCT has 38 sport clubs, with a total membership of around 9 000 students and staff. This provides  a great opportunity to continue participating in the sport you loved at school or to experience something completely new.

These clubs range from the traditional sporting codes such as rugby, hockey, soccer and rowing to the non-traditional codes such as Ultimate Frisbee, underwater, para sport and eSport.

Sports and Recreation provides for all levels of competition from purely social programmes through to high-performance sport.

Sport facilities

Our facilities are spread across our campus, from lower campus all the way up to upper campus and as far afield as a mountain hut near Ceres.

Sport facilities include:

  • astro turf hockey and football pitches
  • indoor sports complex
  • tennis and netball courts
  • rugby and cricket fields and facilities.

UCT sport also has direct access to:

  • L26 keel boat and sailing dinghies
  • ocean-going dive boats.

UCT’s rowing club is one of the best-equipped university clubs in the country with an ergo room as well as a boat shed at Zeekoevlei.

We also have a fitness centre which consists of a gym that is comprised of a weights training area, CrossFit and high-intensity interval training (HIIT), cardio and circuit training areas, and a studio for aerobics classes.

This centre also has access to a swimming pool as well as a sand volleyball court.

Join the club

All UCT sport clubs for 2023 have been loaded onto the Virtual Student Organisations Exhibit where you can find all you need to know about the clubs and join!

If you want to join, just follow the step-by-step guide for signing up for clubs.
