The University of Cape Town (UCT) is one of eight universities belonging to the World University Network (WUN) to have been ranked within the top 60 of the Times Higher Education World University Rankings’ list of the world's most international universities.

The recently published list of the top 200 most international universities in the world showcases institutions from across the globe that have a high proportion of international students and staff, collaborate on research with scholars from across the world and have a strong global reputation to match.

Universities belonging to the WUN have been placed high in the Times Higher Education rankings, illustrating the fact that its members are committed to an international outlook in their research and in increasing the mobility of their staff and students.

The following WUN universities were recognised for this outstanding achievement: the Chinese University of Hong Kong (29th), the University of Auckland and the University of Sydney (shared 36th), the University of Alberta (40th), the University of Sheffield (42nd), the University of Bristol (46th), the University of Leeds (47th) and The University of Cape Town (60th).

“Engagement and leadership in the future knowledge economy is international for our people, research and teaching.”

Professor John Hearn, the board executive director of WUN, said “We are delighted with the strong showing of WUN universities in the international rankings. Engagement and leadership in the future knowledge economy is international for our people, research and teaching. Rankings are not always related closely to reality, but they do show trends and improvements, and can challenge us with criteria for innovation and best practice with which we agree.”

Through international collaboration, the university members of the WUN will continue to create new knowledge, nurture emerging research talent and ultimately transform the world for the better.

With 149 formal international partners, and home to over a third of South Africa’s National Research Foundation A-rated researchers, UCT continues to build capacity across the African continent and the globe.
