As the United Nations’ International Day of Sport for Development and Peace is observed annually on 6 April, the University of Cape Town’s (UCT) Student Sport Union (SSU) held an engagement with Vice-Chancellor interim Emeritus Professor Daya Reddy to talk about student sport matters. Led by sport and recreation manager, Mark Bashe, and SSU chairperson, Shalom Abiodun, the fruitful conversation centred around the university’s sport infrastructure, matters of safety and security, funding, talent exposure, plans to enhance athlete performance and piquing students’ interest in various levels of sport – from residences to internal leagues. More dialogues are anticipated as the sport department ramps up its student sport offering.
