Dinner date with the VC

There was plenty of excitement among the Leo Marquard Hall students on Tuesday, 16 April, when they had a very special guest to dinner. University of Cape Town (UCT) Vice-Chancellor Professor Mamokgethi Phakeng chatted, posed for selfies, shared plenty of hugs and even visited some of the students’ rooms to check in. Since the start of the academic year, the VC – known fondly as “Deputy Mother” – has made a concerted effort to reshape the relationship between the university hierarchy and students, interacting with them regularly at events across the campus. The Leo Marquard dinner was the latest in a series of visits to residences. Brenton Geach was there to capture all the activity.
