KwaLanga learners explore science at UCT

From 16 to 18 July, the University of Cape Town’s (UCT) Department of Molecular and Cell Biology hosted 60 Grade 12 science learners from three KwaLanga high schools – Kulani Secondary, Ikamvalethu Secondary and Isilimela Secondary – for a job-shadowing programme that gave them hands-on experience and a glimpse into the world of microbiology, DNA extraction, biosafety labs and anatomy.

The scholars toured UCT labs, observed TB research processes and engaged with professionals across various science fields. The experience exposed learners to potential career paths in science, technology and medicine, offering first-hand insight into research and academic environments often inaccessible to township school learners.
