United States (US)-based supporters can now join other ‘Friends of UCT’.

The University of Cape Town (UCT) has partnered with the King Baudouin Foundation United States (KBFUS) family, allowing its American-based donors and alumni the ability to easily make donations to UCT.

With the establishment of the KBF Friends of UCT Fund, UCT’s US-based supporters will be able to make donations through online money transfer, bonds, stocks, mutual funds or real estate. The KBFUS provides European and African non-profit organisations with a cost-effective solution through which they can receive tax-deductible gifts from US donors. It is a ‘fiscal sponsorship fund’ – an arrangement through which KBFUS ‘sponsor’ a foreign non-profit organisation, saving them the trouble and expense of setting up their own public charity in the US.

“UCT’s Development and Alumni Department [DAD] has opened a fund with the King Baudouin Foundation to facilitate donations to UCT by alumni and friends of the university,” said executive director of DAD, Russell Ally. “The ‘Friends of UCT Fund can receive charitable donations, gifts of stocks and shares and other forms of giving. All donations are fully tax deductible.”
