UCT Food Security Programme and other updates

07 November 2018 | Campus Announcement

Dear students and colleagues

This campus announcement aims to inform members of the University of Cape Town community about:

1. UCT Food Security Programme

The UCT Food Security Programme, a collaborative initiative running throughout the exam period, offers packed lunches to students between 11:00 and 14:00 daily. The project involves several departments, as well as student and staff volunteers from across the university, under the leadership of Professor Loretta Feris, Deputy Vice-Chancellor: Transformation and Student Affairs.

The purpose and philosophy of the intervention is to address the issue of student hunger, while promoting the dignity and agency of students, all underpinned by a spirit of volunteerism.

Lunches are available from office 1.04 in the Leslie Social Science Building, Upper Campus. Please follow the signs to the distribution points. For queries, please contact Edwina.Brooks@uct.ac.za / 021 650 3924 or Chance.Chagunda@uct.ac.za.

2. Public lecture by US space expert

In partnership with the United States Consulate General in Cape Town, UCT will host a public lecture by one of world’s pioneers of space exploration, Charles (“Charlie”) Bolden, on Tuesday, 13 November. This will take place from 18:00 to 19:00 in the New Lecture Theatre, University Avenue South, Upper Campus. A networking reception will follow directly after the lecture, in the third level foyer of the Menzies Building.

Please RSVP to CapetownRSVP@state.gov. Seating is limited and will be on a first-come, first-served basis.

3. Extended ICTS maintenance

Information and Communication Technology Services’ scheduled maintenance slot will proceed as planned on Sunday, 18 November 2018. However, due to additional Network Renewal work, the slot will be extended – running from 08:00 to 22:00. Unless advised to the contrary, please do not expect any ICT services to be available for the duration of the maintenance slot. For more information, please read the ICTS notice.
