It's raining success

05 December 2005

Doused: Champagne rains down on medical student celebrations.

The forecast on results day always warns of a light drizzle in the late afternoon and the final-year health sciences students always oblige, spraying champagne almost from the moment the results papers begin floating down from the first-floor balcony at the Barnard Fuller Building.

This year 264 students qualified as revellers: 155 MBChBs; 43 physiotherapy final-years; 11 from audiology; 18 from speech pathology; and 37 from occupational health.

Liza Stockland was this year's top MBChB student.

On the postgraduate side, the School of Health and Rehabilitation's occupational therapy division celebrates a bumper crop of postgraduates this year, among them two PhDs (head of department Lana van Niekerk and Dr Theresa Lorenzo), and three master's students. The school also celebrates the first four graduates from its MPhil in Disability Studies, launched in 2003.
