UCT’s spring 2025 graduation on 8 September marked a powerful milestone for Civil Engineering graduate Lwazi Thobani, originally from Centane in the Eastern Cape. Despite losing his father – his greatest motivator – during exam season and facing a debt of R165 000, he persevered through support from UCT Student Wellness Service, scholarships and determination to complete his degree.
Walking across the stage at the Faculty of Engineering & the Built Environment (EBE) ceremony, the ceremony was more than an academic achievement for Thobani; it is also a tribute to his late father.
