While you’re a student at UCT, your student card is like gold – remember to take it with you everywhere.

Your student card serves as your official student ID and guarantees you access to a long list of campus facilities, including transport, residences and libraries. But the benefits outside campus are huge too. If you know where to swipe your card, you’ll receive discounts on meals and reduced entry into a range of facilities and attractions, including Table Mountain and Kirstenbosch.

Your student card is your:

  • proof of identity on campus and must be carried with you at all times
  • access key to labs and other facilities related to your studies
  • library card, which allows you take out six items for seven days
  • ticket to using the UCT Shuttle – for mahala
  • key to your residence (if you’re staying in res)
  • meal ticket, which allows you to choose what you eat (if you’re staying in res)
  • source of credit for photocopying and printing.

When do I get my student card?

If you were unable to attend the First-Year Campus Reception programme (where you would have gotten your card), you can get it from UCT Access Control, but only once you’ve registered.

When you’re a student, saving a bit goes a long way. Check out a few places around Cape Town where you can use your card to pay less and do more.
