When a devastating fire affected the Rondebosch campus of the University of Cape Town (UCT) on Sunday, 18 April, hundreds of students had to be evacuated from residences and moved to emergency accommodation around Cape Town.

UCT Vice-Chancellor Prof Mamokgethi Phakeng joined students to express their deepest gratitude to volunteers, donors and corporate sponsors from across South Africa and the international community who supported UCT students affected by the campus fire and extended a helping hand towards efforts to salvage material from the library.
