Your student card

03 March 2021

Aside from serving as your official ID on campus, your student card gives you access to oodles of on-campus facilities, including transport, residences and the libraries. And it lines you up for some pretty sweet discounts, if you know where to swipe it!

Your student card is your:

  • proof of identity on campus and must be carried with you at all times
  • access key to labs and other facilities related to your studies
  • library card, which allows you take out six items for seven days
  • ticket to using the Jammie Shuttle – for mahala
  • key to your residence (if you’re staying in res)
  • meal ticket, which allows you to choose what you eat (if you’re staying in res)
  • source of credit for photocopying and printing.

When do I get my student card?

You can get your student card from UCT Access Control, but only once you’ve registered.
