These are pictures of my visit to the Sterkfontein Caves – Afrikaans for “strong spring” – a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Sterkfontein is also a South African National Heritage Site. The area in which it is situated is known as the Cradle of Humankind. And it is because of our shared human origin in this place that Africa is so close to my heart. Africa means a united humankind to me, and Africa Month reminds me of our species’ united humble beginnings.
