Helicopter in emergency landing at UCT

A helicopter, with the pilot and three other occupants on board, made an emergency landing in Cross Campus Road on middle campus at around 09h00 this morning. No one was injured.

Eyewitnesses said that the helicopter hit the top of some trees on the side of the road, and then attempted to land immediately afterwards. During the landing the helicopter tumbled onto its side.

The pilot and three passengers were shaken but not visibly hurt.

UCT emergency services were on the scene almost immediately and assisted the pilot and passengers, and alerted the police and local emergency services.

By about 11h00, emergency workers were still on the scene, which had been cordoned off, and were working to clear the site.
