Academics from the University of Michigan mingled with South African College of Music staff and students on 31 August.
The relationship between UCT and the University of Michigan took another positive step forward this week when three academics from the US-based university's School of Music, Theatre and Dance visited the South African College of Music.
Emeritus Professor of Voice George Shirley, Associate Professor of Voice Daniel Washington and Distinguished Professor of Composition Bright Sheng, will be teaching opera students for a week as part of collaboration between the two universities.
Professor Kamal Khan, director of the School of Opera, said the visitors have vast experience and bring a special musical message to students.
Khan added that he hoped that this would be the beginning of an ongoing relationship between his department and Michigan, as there are other engagements with that university lined-up for the near future.
