Aumann is guest speaker at VC's Open Lecture

28 July 2009

Nobel Laureate in Economics Professor Robert J Aumann, Emeritus Professor in the Institute of Mathematics at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem in Israel, will be the guest speaker at the Vice-Chancellor's Open Lecture on 31 July at Kramer Lecture Theatre 1 at 13h00.

Aumann's lecture, titled Practical Applications of Game Engineering, examines practical applications of game theory where the "rules of the game" are sharply defined, such as auctions, traffic management, elections, and job matching.

Game theory is a branch of applied mathematics that attempts to capture behavior in strategic situations, in which an individual's success in making choices depends on the choices of others.
