Home-grown entertainment

The annual Vice-Chancellor's Concert shook the Baxter Theatre Centre last Thursday night, honouring the Student Representative Council's centenary.

Home-grown entertainment was courtesy of the UCT Choir and the South African College of Music's singers, dancers and musicians, talent that continues to uphold the SACM's outstanding reputation.

Over the years, the college has grown from its modest beginnings to a fully-fledged music department, which offers instrumental and theoretical training, schools of opera and ballet, and also a world-renowned department of African music and dance performance skills.

The SACM has over the years contributed to South Africa's rich cultural landscape.

It has produced world-class performers who have gone on to make their name on the national and the world stage.

The college, which dates back to 1910, is only three years shy of its centenary.
