Affirmative action and UCT

07 May 2007

Following the recent inaugural lecture by Professor David Benatar on affirmative action, and the follow-up debate with Professor Martin Hall, UCT's been abuzz with debate and discussion. After Monday Paper ran summaries of Benatar and Hall's debate, we received a number of letters and notes. Because of space constraints, we simply cannot run them all. The first to arrive, though, was this piece by Associate Professor Pumla Gobodo-Madikizela, who chaired the debate between Benatar and Hall. We here run Gobodo-Madikizela's article, as well as snippets that we snatched - with the writers' blessings - from other communiqués posted to us and elsewhere.
