Floating down Adderley Street

20 March 2007 | Story by Megan Morris

The RAG floats made their way up and down Adderley Street on Saturday, 17 March.

UCT's RAG Floats Procession made a welcome return to the city, its traditional home, on 17 March.

The procession, which had been staged in Rondebosch and Mowbray for the past two years, made its colourful way down Adderley Street on Saturday, trucks and students fitted out in garb that ranged from the flamboyant to the far-out.

It's all for a good cause, though. The money that RAG (Remember and Give) raises in the procession, which totals around R10 000 each year, goes towards the work of the Students' Health and Welfare Centres Organisation (SHAWCO). The RAG coffers will likely be swelled this year by the R20 000 awarded by the City of Cape Town, which had asked the students to postpone the event, originally scheduled for 10 March.
