Rochford reels in records

14 February 2007 | Story by Daniella Pollock

In 2006, Associate Professor Kevin Rochford celebrated his 35th consecutive year of racing for the UCT Athletics Club by representing the university in 26 races.

He came first in his age category (60+) in four races (including the Gun Run half marathon), second in six races and third in a further six events. He also set six new club records in the Grand Master division.

When he clocked 60 in November 2004, Rochford said that there were a couple of records in that category he wanted to break.

"I'm going to try and nail them all down," he said at the time. Just over two years later, Rockford is rapidly raking them in.

He has added five more UCT Athletics Club records in 2007, ranging from winning 150m sprints to 10km runs.
