Films under spotlight at conference

11 April 2005

Following on the heels of its conference on youth culture and the media, the Centre for Film & Media Studies (cfms) will run a film studies colloquium from April 29 to May 1. Here, delegates will hold forth on both film-studies standards - such as gender and film - and burgeoning new fields, like the ties between environmental studies and film.

With so many budding filmmakers at the centre, the colloquium will also cover topical issues of production and distribution, and themes found in local films. Guest speakers will include Jyoti Mistry, head of film and television studies at the Wits School of Arts.

To make sure the event isn't all talk, the centre will also screen Mistry's new film, We Remember Differently, as well as fiction and documentary work by its honours and master's students, over the three days.

For more information about the conference, contact Petros Ndlela at 650-3373 or e-mail pndlela@humanities.uct.ac.za.
