Step out in style

24 November 2003

The UCT Drama Department will present We Got Rhythm . . .And All That Jazz at the Little Theatre from November 27.

The show is a sassy and savvy musical revue, specially created for the department's musical theatre course by Janice Honeyman. It features a wide range of fine material, moving through vintage classics like Die Fledermaus and Show Boat, before moving on to contemporary pieces from musicals such as Hair and Chicago.

The keynote of this production is sheer high-voltage energy, featuring a dynamic cast under the creative guidance of director David Fick, musical director Danie Fourie and choreographer Adele Blank.

The cast is headed by graduating students Adam du Plessis, Brennan Holder, Marie-Louise Honeyman, David Johnson and Mandi Manson, all of who featured in Geoffrey Hyland's acclaimed production of The Fantasticks last year. Holder will also star in the 2004 production of Phantom of the Opera.

A strong supporting cast includes Ndoni Khanyile, Claudine Marais, Anelisa Phewa, Naima Profit-McLean, Candice van Litsenborgh and, as ensemble members, Talia Egelhof, Kati Francis, Nathan Fredericks, Ryan Jales, Alicia McCormack and Chantal Stanfield.

The season runs until December 13, with shows at 20h00 nightly and matinees at 14h30 on Saturdays. Tickets are priced at R35 (adults) and R30 (students and senior citizens). Block bookings of 10 or more can also be made at R30 per ticket. Bookings can be made through Susan Cole on (021) 480-7129 or via e-mail at scole@hiddingh.uct.ac.za.
