Sporting accolade: DVC Prof Martin West (right) has received a special award for his contribution to UCT sport from chair of Sports Council, Prof John Simpson.

Deputy Vice-Chancellor Professor Martin West was among those honoured at the UCT sports awards dinner on Friday, October 17.

West, a keen sportsman in his day (NB: we're not saying that his day is done yet, of course - sycophantic editor], received a special award from the chair of the UCT Sports Council, Professor John Simpson, for his contribution to sports at UCT. West, a former chair of Sports Council, has also made a significant contribution to UCT sport in his capacity as DVC over the past few years, said Simpson.
