In remembrance: Donrick Ralton April

10 April 2024

Dear colleagues and students

It is with profound sadness that we share news of the passing of our colleague, Donrick Ralton April (40). He passed away on Monday, 1 April 2024 after a courageous battle with a long-term illness.

Mr April joined the University of Cape Town (UCT) on 1 April 2007, and held several roles during his tenure, including more than four years as a standby advisor in the Office for Inclusivity and Change. In March 2018, he joined the Technology Services division of the Properties and Services (P&S) department as an access control services controller, where he worked until his time of passing.

His colleagues described him as one of the department’s pillars. They said he will be missed for his friendly disposition, approachable demeanour and unwavering support. They applauded him for embodying the highest standards of professionalism and integrity throughout his career at UCT. His colleagues said he approached every task with a genuine love for his work and a commitment to excellence that inspired all those who worked with him.

Mr April will be remembered by his colleagues for being a constant source of support to students and staff. Colleagues said he always offered a listening ear, kind words of encouragement, and had an unwavering positive attitude.

He is survived by his wife Tharwah, daughters Nika and Inara, mother Glynis, brothers Stanton and Furlin, and sister Martinique.

The family has held a private funeral.

The P&S Technology Services division will host a memorial service on Tuesday, 16 April 2024 at 11:00 in Kramer Lecture Theatre 3 on middle campus.

The university is offering Mr April’s family support in this period of bereavement. We extend our sincere condolences to the family and all who knew Mr April.

Sincerely

The UCT Executive
