The University of Cape Town (UCT) hosted the “Values in Higher Education Conversations” on 15 October 2025, ahead of the upcoming national Values20 (V20) Summit. Led by UCT Vice-Chancellor Professor Mosa Moshabela, the gathering brought together higher education leaders, including chancellors, vice-chancellors and Students’ Representative Council (SRC) presidents from universities across South Africa. The discussions explored how values-based leadership can shape a more ethical, equitable and sustainable higher education landscape.

The event forms part of South Africa’s preparation for the 2025 G20 Presidency and its national V20 initiative under the theme “living values”.

Through critical dialogue on leadership, curriculum design and institutional culture, the conversation challenged universities to move beyond merely stating their values but to also actively live them in teaching, research and governance.
