Gina and Nicholas Pauling think the other is just the bee's knees.

06 December 2004

The drama siblings, who graduate with BA degrees in theatre and performance this week, have never worked together, but have made a point of seeing the other in action. "He's good," says Gina, 21, of her older brother's performances on stage. "She's outstanding," Nicholas, 23, returns. That kind of mutual support will come in handy when the two strike out on their own after graduation. Nicholas, who was on the degree's acting stream, will be busy for at least the early part of 2005, working on Much Ado About Nothing at Maynardville. It's his second Shakespeare play within a year, having earned praise for his performance as the dithering Dane in Hamlet under the direction of Michaelis lecturer Geoffrey Hyland early in 2004. Plans get vague after Much Ado, but a stint at York University polishing his craft is an option. Gina, who was on the theatre-making stream, is toying with the idea of an independent project with fellow graduate Julia Anastasopoulos, but is also auditioning for a couple of acting roles. For the moment she's playing it by ear.
