Council rejects claims over DVC appointment process

Dear members of the campus community

At the council meeting of 17 March 2018 the Council of the University of Cape Town discussed and supported the following statement:

On 9 December 2017, following a thorough and valid selection process, Council resolved to offer an appointment as Deputy Vice-Chancellor to Associate Professor Lis Lange. Council, having noted recent allegations as recorded in media reports and social media postings, rejects the unfounded allegations that it has been racist and anti-transformation in its decision. Council reaffirms the inclusive nature of the selection process, the correctness of the procedures followed and its confidence in its outcome. Council further affirms its full confidence in the appointed Deputy Vice-Chancellor.
