Congratulations to ad hom promotees

Dear colleagues
It is with great pleasure that I write to commend the 110 academic and technical staff members of the University of Cape Town (UCT) whose applications for ad hominem promotions were successful in 2017.
This group represents a diverse body of colleagues across all UCT faculties and I, alongside the other executives, had the pleasure of hosting the group yesterday evening as we officially celebrated their achievements.
Their promotion is a celebration of their academic achievements and outstanding leadership in teaching and research. It recognises each individual’s contribution towards achieving our 2020 vision, which includes being an engaged and research-intensive university.
Ad hominem promotions follow strict criteria, which go beyond performance in lecture halls or laboratories. They also take into consideration each individual’s social responsiveness – be it in the form of community engagement, clinical services, health systems development or policy input.
I reiterate my gratitude to the ad hom promotees for their contribution and wish them well going forward.
