UCT’s final exams got underway on upper campus today, Wednesday, 15 November. Exams are scheduled to run until 30 November 2017.

Close to 2 000 students wrote exams on a variety of subjects in the exam centre on the UCT rugby fields this morning.

Vice-Chancellor Dr Max Price said that he was very happy with the way the first exams had begun, despite some minimal delays.

“The halls are looking fantastic and the system seems to have worked very smoothly,” he said.

“The first exams have gone very well and frankly I was expecting more teething problems. There were some delays with some students getting through the ID controls and, for those students, exams started a bit later and will end later,” Price added.

1 883 students wrote exams during the morning, including mathematics, law, marketing and Afrikaans. A further 2 700 students will write exams in today’s afternoon sessions at 12:30 and at 16:30.

Students who wish to defer an exam are reminded to read the notice on application for deferring exams by Dr Karen van Heerden, the deputy registrar, who outlines the conditions regarding deferment.
