Mental health needs investment

Professor Crick Lund will outline arguments in support of investment in mental health in his inaugural lecture “Ten reasons to invest in population mental health in low- and middle-income countries”.
The lecture will draw on Lund’s wealth of research and policy engagement work from the last two decades. He will speak to studies of the epidemiology of mental disorders, health economics, human rights, mental health services, and evaluations of novel interventions and delivery mechanisms.
Lund is Professor of Public Mental Health in the Department of Psychiatry and Mental Health at UCT.
He was a founding member of the Alan J Flisher Centre for Public Mental Health and served as its first director from 2010 to 2017. His research interests lie in mental health policy, service planning and the relationship between poverty and mental health in low- and middle-income countries.
The lecture will take place on Wednesday, 23 May, at 17:00 for 17:30, at the New Learning Centre Lecture Theatre in the Anatomy Building, Faculty of Health Sciences.
