Power and racism in the US justice system

Professor Angela Davis, an expert in prosecutorial power and racism in the American justice system, will be in conversation with UCT Dean of Law Professor Penny Andrew at the beginning of March.
Davis is a Professor of Law at the American University Washington College of Law where she teaches criminal law, criminal procedure and criminal defence. She is a recipient of numerous awards, including the Washington College of Law’s Pauline Ruyle Moore award for scholarly contribution in public law.
Her new book, Policing the Black Man, will be available for purchase and signing by the author on the night. The National Book Review describes this as “a powerful collection of essays [that]” explores how racial injustice informs the black male experience, beginning in childhood with discrimination and racial profiling”.
The event will be taking place in Lecture Theatre 3 in the Kramer Law Building from 17:30 to 19:30 on Thursday, 1 March.
