UCT soprano reaches new heights

SACM student Masabane Cecilia Rangwanasha, who placed first in the classical voice category at the 6th UNISA International Voice Competition, performed at the 2017 Vice-Chancellor’s Concert at UCT.

UCT student Masabane Cecilia Rangwanasha won first place at the 6th annual UNISA International Voice Competition, which took place on 3 February 2018 at the ZK Matthews Great Hall in Pretoria.

The young soprano, who won in the classical voice category, is the first South African classical singer to win a UNISA International Voice Competition, and took home a prize of R200 000.

She was joined in first place by Cynthia Abraham (France), who placed first in the jazz voice category.

Rangwanasha is currently in the second year of her postgraduate diploma in performance at the South African College of Music (SACM) with Associate Professor Virginia Davids.
