As South Africa commemorates the 50th anniversary of the Soweto Uprising, UCT News will dedicate its Youth Month coverage to reflecting on the significance and legacy of 16 June 1976. June remains a pivotal month in the country’s history, marking the tragic events when hundreds of young people lost their lives protesting against unjust education policies. Throughout the month, UCT News will feature perspectives, reflections and stories from members of the UCT community, exploring the impact of the uprising on youth, education, activism and social change in South Africa today.
“The windows of opportunity are open, it’s up to you to use them wisely.”
