The Lady Day Big Band perform a South African vintage pop medley at UCT
From Sipho “Hotstix” Mabuze to Yvonne Chaka-Chaka, Brenda Fassie, Mafikizolo and Malaika, the pop medley by the Lady Day Big Band and the UCT School of Dance added some fun and excitement to the 2020 UCT Annual Staff Awards, dance music that was sure to get even the those with two left feet off their couches.

Watch the UCT Annual Awards 2020
On Wednesday, 2 December 2020, Vice-Chancellor Professor Mamokgethi Phakeng hosted the UCT Annual Awards 2020, which serves to honour and celebrate exceptional individuals at UCT for their contributions through excellence and dedication in research, teaching and service. The celebration acknowledges 225 staff receiving Long Service Awards and the recipients of the Distinguished Teacher Award, the Alan Pifer Research Award and the Vice-Chancellor’s Awards for Excellence. The evening also recognises those staff members who have received ad hominem promotions this year.

Markus Arnold holds a prize-winning bi-national German-French doctorate on Comparative and Francophone literatures, where he investigated in questions of violence and interculturality in contemporary novel writing of the Indian Ocean Islands.
