TLC2026: Conference reception and proposal submission deadline

Dear colleagues and students

For the first time ever, the University of Cape Town (UCT) Teaching and Learning Conference (TLC2026) will include a reception, scheduled to take place at the Baxter Theatre Concert Hall on 17 November 2026 at 16:30, following the close of the first day of the conference.

The theme for TCL2026 is Connection, Reconfigured: Reimagining Teaching and Learning with Artificial Intelligence. It will take place from 17–18 November, with pre-conference workshops on 16 November.

The reception is intended to let the conference theme be experienced as well as discussed, bringing the questions raised over the two days into a different register.

The programme for the reception is as follows:

• 16:30–17:00: An excerpt from Autoplay, an immersive hybrid performance by Darkroom Contemporary
• 17:00–17:15: Reflection from Darkroom Contemporary's Director, Louise Coetzer, on the creative process and response from a discussant, Dr Mbongeni Mtshali (Director of Theatre, Dance & Performance Studies at UCT)
• 17:15–17:55: Distinguished Teacher Awards, hosted by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor: Teaching and Learning
• 17:55 onwards: Networking, canapés and drinks

Free tickets are available via Quicket on a first-come-first-served basis.

Proposal submission deadline approaching

The deadline to submit your proposal for TLC2026 is fast approaching. Proposal submissions close on 31 August 2026, after which the formal proposal review process begins. If you have been meaning to submit, now is the time to finalise and send in your proposal.

Already submitted a proposal?

Proposals are being reviewed on a rolling basis, and you may be notified before 21 September 2026 on the outcome of your submission. If you have already submitted, please keep an eye on your email, as acceptances are being communicated on an ongoing basis ahead of the deadline.
