In remembrance: Zenzi Pahla

It is with heavy hearts that we share the news of the passing of our student, Ms Zenzi Pahla (40), on Monday, 15 June 2026.
Ms Pahla was enrolled for a Master of Commerce in Economic Science at the University of Cape Town (UCT).
Her friends have described her as someone who did not want to be remembered simply for her achievements, but rather for the values that guided her life and work. They regard her deep love for humanity and her commitment to making a meaningful difference in others' lives as being at the heart of her legacy. She was passionate about promoting and supporting women in economics, advocating for greater opportunities, representation and recognition for women in the field.
She also valued integrity, believing that success should be built on honesty, principle and a genuine commitment to others. Her strong work ethic, dedication and perseverance were evident in everything she undertook.
Ms Pahla is survived by her mother, Mwansa Pahla; and her sister, Dr Sarai Pahla.
Her memorial and cremation services were held on Thursday, 18 June 2026 in Rustenburg, North-West.
The university has reached out to offer support to the Pahla family. We convey our heartfelt condolences to the family, friends and all who knew our late student.
