In remembrance: Onwaba Isenathi Dayile

It is with great sadness that we inform you of the passing of our student Onwaba Isenathi Dayile (19), a first-year Bachelor of Business Science student. Dayile passed on at Groote Schuur Hospital on Monday, 27 July 2026.
Dayile enrolled for his Bachelor of Business Science degree, majoring in Computer Science, at the University of Cape Town (UCT) in 2026 after matriculating with several distinctions, including his favourite subjects Mathematics and Advanced Mathematics.
A second born in his family, Dayile has been described as a God-fearing child and a dedicated student who valued his academics. He will be fondly remembered by his teammates for how he enjoyed playing soccer.
He is survived by his father Ayanda, mother Cece, and sister Ahluma – who is a current UCT student.
A memorial service, organised by the UCT Sport department, was held on Saturday, 1 August 2026. Dayile was laid to rest on Saturday, 8 August 2026 at the Fourways Memorial Park, Johannesburg.
The university has offered its support to the Dayile family and conveys its condolences to them as well as all who knew and loved him.
