In remembrance: Neliswa Mnqamisa

It is with deep sadness that we share news of the loss of our colleague Ms Neliswa Mnqamisa (58), who passed away on Wednesday, 29 July 2026.
Ms Mnqamisa became part of the University of Cape Town (UCT) in May 2008. She worked as a cleaner within the Campus Cleaning Services division of the Property and Services department. Most recently, she was assigned to the ICTS-on-Main building.
She will be remembered by her colleagues for her deep dedication to her work. She was always punctual and led by example. She was supportive, warm and made it her mission to lift those around her. Her colleagues said she was a woman of faith and prayer who lived with humility and kindness. She will be greatly missed for her generous spirit and her readiness to assist anyone in need.
Ms Mnqamisa is survived by her daughter, Siyasanda Mgoqi and her grandson, Athalive Mpompo Mgoqi.
A memorial service in her honour was held at the Baxter Theatre on Tuesday, 4 August 2026. She was laid to rest on Saturday, 8 August 2026 in Zwelitsha township, Qonce in the Eastern Cape.
The university has reached out to offer support to Ms Mnqamisa’s family, and our heartfelt condolences go out to them and all who knew our late colleague.
