UCT student’s piano recital gives back to the Baxter Theatre

UCT South African College of Music student Isaac van der Merwe took to the stage at the Baxter Theatre on 17 July for a special piano recital in support of the iconic venue that has played a central role in his development as a musician. The fundraising performance celebrated the enduring partnership between the Baxter and the College, highlighting the importance of performance spaces in nurturing the next generation of artists.

Reflecting on the recital, Van der Merwe described classical music as a deeply human experience and credited the Baxter with providing students the opportunity to develop the vital craft of live performance. For him, the concert was a meaningful way to give back to a venue that continues to shape young musicians and Cape Town’s cultural landscape.
