In remembrance: Mbonisi Ntebe

Dear colleagues and students

It is with heavy hearts that we inform you of the passing of our colleague Mr Mbonisi Ntebe (53), a Campus Protection Services (CPS) protection officer at the Department of Human Biology, Faculty of Health Sciences. He passed away on Tuesday, 7 July 2026 at Somerset Hospital following a prolonged illness.

Mr Ntebe joined the University of Cape Town (UCT) in July 2016.

His colleagues said he was a dedicated husband and father who lived fully and loved his family. He will be remembered by his colleagues as a caring and supportive person.

Mr Ntebe is survived by his wife Vathiswa, sons Inathi and Alive, daughter Esona, mother Nombulelo and brother Zimisele.

A memorial service for staff and family was held at the Forest Hill Residence on Tuesday, 14 July 2026.

Mr Ntebe will be laid to rest on Saturday, 18 July 2026 at his hometown of Centane in the Eastern Cape.

The university has offered its support to the Ntebe family and to all who knew and loved him.
