Dear colleagues and students
It is with sadness that we inform you of the passing of our colleague, Mr Henry Klaaste (58), who served as a campus protection officer in the Properties and Services department. He passed away on Monday, 22 June 2026 at Karl Bremer Hospital.
Mr Klaaste joined the University of Cape Town (UCT) in 2016 and was based at Hiddingh campus.
Colleagues will remember him as a spontaneous and gracious person. They said he was deeply committed to his work and contributed significantly to the department and the UCT community. He will also be remembered for the care he showed to his family and siblings.
Mr Klaaste has been described as someone who had a great relationship with his colleagues and as a great team player.
He is survived by his wife Oumie; and children Elmo, Senzo, Franco, Alexander and Nicky.
He will be buried on Saturday, 4 July 2026 in Scottsdene, Kraaifontein, Western Cape.
The university has reached out to offer support to the Klaaste family, and our heartfelt condolences go out to them and all who knew our late colleague.
Sincerely
The UCT Executive
